Messenger Kids — Building Trust Through Real Families

When Meta approached Tru Films to create a video series designed to reassure parents that Messenger Kids is a safe platform for their children, we knew the foundation had to be real voices and lived experience.

Casting Real Families

Partnering with a real-people casting agency, we reviewed dozens of families nationwide and narrowed the field to 15 finalists. After recorded pre-interviews, Meta selected five families whose perspectives felt natural, engaging, and trustworthy.

Pre-Production & Story Development

Through in-depth conversations with parents and children, we learned how each family connects, communicates, and incorporates Messenger into daily life. From these insights, we developed tailored scripts and storyboards while leaving room for unscripted moments to emerge during filming.

Locations & Logistics

When filming in homes wasn’t feasible, we scouted locations that reflected each family’s environment while supporting production needs.

Each profile was filmed in a single day and included:

  • Parent and child interviews

  • Observational family moments

  • Lifestyle B-roll

  • Seamless integration of the Messenger Kids app

Because several shoots took place on school days, we secured child performance permits and coordinated on-set tutors when required.

Post-Production & Collaboration

In post-production, Tru Films worked closely with Meta to shape edits that felt engaging and emotionally grounded while clearly communicating the platform’s safety and purpose.

Balancing honest storytelling with clear brand messaging is a craft we take pride in.

The Result

We produced five individual one-minute films, each featuring one family’s story.

We also created:

  • a compilation video weaving together all five families

  • social media cutdowns for digital distribution

Together, the series presents relatable moments of connection, helping parents understand how Messenger Kids supports safe communication and strengthens relationships.
